Just For Parents

What You Need To Know

If your son or daughter is planning a trip to Castaway Club or is here right now, following is some information so you can rest easy while he or she is away.

There are many fun and exciting activities in which kids may participate. Whether they are being challenged on our climbing wall, playing disc golf or hanging out in the game room, their safety is our top concern.

What To Bring

All bedding (sheets, towels, and blankets) are provided by Castaway Club.
  • Toiletries. Bring basic toiletries. However, if your child forgets something, most items can be purchased at the Castaway Club Store.
  • Proper Clothing. Warm clothing will be needed at most times of the year at Castaway Club. Closed-toed shoes are required from some activities. Also, don't let your child forget their bathing suit for the lake and hot tub.
  • Medications. Castaway requires collection of all medications, prescriptions and over-the-counter from all campers.  This includes items such as Tylenol, Advil, etc.  This is mandatory, no exceptions.  Medications will be given to the Camp Medical Intern, who, with the volunteer Camp Doctor, will dispense them to the campers at the prescribed times in the Infirmary.  Each camper must put all medications in a separate zip-lock bag and write their name and city on the bag.  Your leader will have a med collection form to fill out and place in the bag.
  • Special Dietary Needs. Our Food Service Team is very willing to work with your child's dietary needs. Please contact your child's trip leader or Castaway Club ahead of time to communicate those needs.
  • Calling Cards. When Young Life leaders take kids to camp, they are purposefully taking them out of their normal environment and into one free of disctractions in order to clearly hear the gospel message.  Be aware that your camper's cell phone will be collected and stored securely for the duration of the camp week.  If you need to contact your camper, you may call the camp office at 218-325-3550.  The office will deliver messages to campers.  There are public phones where campers can use calling cards, which are available for purchase in the camp store.
  • Spending Money. The Castaway Club Store, the Snack Bar, and Coffee Shop will probably be open some time during your child's stay at Castaway Club. Additional spending money will be needed for purchases.
  • Study Needs. Depending on your child's group, certain study materials such as a Bible, a notebook, and a pen or pencil may be needed. Contact your child's trip leader to find out.
  • Camera. Memories at Castaway Club  are unforgettable. Encourage your child to show YOU what that is all about with photographs!
