History of Castaway Club

In the early part of the 1900s Castaway Club was the summer vacation home of Sydney Smith. Sydney and his son, C. Gordon Smith, would gather kids from around the Pelican Lake area and take them on boat rides or gather in Windjammer. During these outings, Sydney and C. Gordon would share Bible stories with their young friends. Little did the Smiths realize, they were starting a spiritual legacy that would continue for almost a century.

Castaway Club was eventually given to Young Life by the Smith family in 1963. Since that time, Castaway has expanded both in size and in the number of campers that storm the property each year. Castaway hosts more than 3,000 campers during the summers and about 4,500 campers in a growing school season.
